My name is Jacob Luyt-Dozois, the author, curator, and content creator for Becoming Faithful. These blog posts, and all other subsequent content are meant as a type of portfolio for my work as a Christian thinker.
Personally, I’m exhausted with all of the noise of content floating around in the internet world. I want to provide a quieter place for you. In our world of social media, the need for “new” and “exciting” continues to be demanded. I’m not doing that, I refuse to run that rat race.
Plain and simple, the feel of this website should be simple and steady. If you’re here, I imagine you’re at least interested in the Christian faith. I have answers, I’m not going to pretend to not believe things. At the same time, I know that good questions do exist and a lot of us have a lot of good questions. Those questions require honest and thoughtful reflection before any kind of real answer can be given or received. Simply put, honest and thoughtful reflection is what I do. You could say it’s sort of my life’s work, and now, I’m putting it here for you to read.
The quick hits to know about me are that I am deeply rooted in Scripture as my authority, I have a very diverse set of backgrounds and experiences, and I care much more about finding something useful for you than demanding orthodox-like adherence to any specific doctrinal framework.
I think Christian (inherently Jewish as well) Scripture is interested in making you ask hard questions, which is why i find Scripture so exciting. That love and focus on Scripture has been built over 16 years of Christian faith, navigating a wide array of denominations, local church communities, social and political movements, a bachelor degree in social work, and finally, a Master’s degree specializing in Biblical Studies. I’ve run a pretty thick gauntlet of philosophical, spiritual, and community environments.
Know that this isn’t your typical blog. I’m not here to parrot easy answers. Hopefully, I ask you challenging questions that lead you to taking a simple step of faith. The aim of this website is that you take that next faithful step. Becoming Faithful does not happen by looking a year, 6 months, or even just one week in advance. Becoming Faithful, becoming who God truly created you to be, is a lifetime of small simple steps as He guides.
I encourage you to engage. I encourage you to dig deep into the content and let us know what is helping, hurting, and where you’re finding things are moving you forward. One step at a time means just taking that next step. I’ll be sharing my story, I’ll be writing my thoughts on a variety of topics. I’ll be doing some deeper dives into books fo the Bible and other topics. You’ll get alot of content here. But most of all, the goal is to get your faith moving. That’s it. Faith that moves is a faith grows.
Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105
